Did You Know? The world’s first baseball stadium opened in the Oakland neighborhood outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 30th, 1909. It was named Forbes Field and was the original home to the Pittsburgh Pirates until closing in 1970. Forbes Field was named after a British general from the French and Indian War that captured Fort Pitt from the French Army, General John Forbes.
