The Accidental Inventions That Changed Science

Did you know that one of the most groundbreaking antibiotics was discovered entirely by accident?
In 1928, Alexander Fleming, a Scottish bacteriologist, returned from vacation to find that a Petri dish containing Staphylococcus bacteria had been left uncovered.
To his surprise, he noticed a mold called *Penicillium notatum* had invaded the dish and was killing the bacteria around it.
This serendipitous finding led to the development of penicillin, the first true antibiotic, which has saved millions of lives since its introduction.
Fleming’s accidental discovery underscored the importance of keen observation and open-mindedness in scientific research, paving the way for modern medicine and antibiotics that combat a wide range of bacterial infections.
