Unusual Holidays Celebrated Around the World

Did you know that every year on January 7th, Japan celebrates a unique holiday called Nanakusa-no-sekku, also known as the Festival of Seven Herbs?
This tradition, which dates back over a thousand years, involves preparing and eating a special rice porridge called nanakusa-gayu.
The porridge is made with seven specific spring herbs: water dropwort, shepherd’s purse, cudweed, chickweed, henbit, turnip, and radish.
The festival is believed to bring good health and longevity, acting as a gentle detox for the body after the indulgences of the New Year.
In addition to its health benefits, Nanakusa-no-sekku serves as a delightful cultural practice, reconnecting people with nature’s seasonal bounty and the joy of simple, wholesome food.
