What year was the NATO treaty signed? — History Trivia
Did you know that the Magna Carta, signed in 1215, is often considered one of the world’s first steps toward modern democracy?
Originally issued by King John of England, it was intended to make peace with rebellious barons by limiting the king’s arbitrary powers and establishing that everyone, including the king, was subject to the law.
While many of its clauses were specific to the time, its principles inspired future constitutional documents, including the United States Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In fact, only four original copies of the 1215 Magna Carta are known to exist today, preserved in the British Library and two English cathedrals.
