Queen Elizabeth II favorite breed of dog is the Corgi. She is perhaps the most famous owner of Pembroke Welsh Corgis, has had more than 30 in her lifetime. The French town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is best-known for its wine — and a bizarre long-standing law. For the last 67 years, a statute has barred the "flying over, landing, or taking off of flying saucers" in the area. Former Mayor Lucien Jeune implemented the ban in 1954, which reads: "Any aircraft, known as flying saucer or flying cigar, which should land on the territory of the community will be immediately held in custody."

The letter Q is the only letter in the English alphabet that doesn't appear in the names of any of the 50 US states. All the other letters of the alphabet can be found in the names of at least one of the states.

Arizona and Hawaii are the only two US states to not observe Daylight Savings Time. A few US territories also refrain from observing DST: the commonwealths of Puerto Rico and the Northern Marina Islands; the U.S. Virgin Islands; American Samoa; and Guam.
