The geological processes behind the creation of fjords
Did you know that fjords, those stunning deep inlets surrounded by steep cliffs, are sculpted by the patient power of glaciers over thousands of years?
These majestic landscapes are formed through a process called glacial carving.
As glaciers advance, they move slowly yet powerfully, eroding the land beneath them.
The immense weight and movement carve out deep U-shaped valleys.
When the ice eventually retreats, these valleys become inundated by seawater, creating the dramatic, deep waterways we know as fjords today.
This process leaves behind breathtaking scenery, with steep rock faces plunging into serene waters, often found in Norway, New Zealand, and parts of Canada.
